Portable Photo  Portable Two-Way Radios are hand-held wireless communication devices that are used one-to-one or one-to-many over radio frequencies within a local area, city, or state. They are battery operated and need to be recharged periodically through a car jack or table-top charging unit.

  • Convenience - Small, lightweight portable radios can be with the users whenever it is needed. When the job takes the users away from their vehicle, whether on the street or into a building, the portable radio goes with the user.
  • Accessibility - Users are more accessible with a portable radio because they can send and receive calls when away from the vehicle.
  • Replaceability - There is no installation time needed with portable radios so down time is virtually eliminated.

Mobile Photo  Mobile Two-Way Radios are vehicle-mounted wireless devices that are used to send voice or data messages one-to-one or one-to-many over radio frequencies within a local area, city, or state. They are often installed on the dash of a vehicle and can run off its power source. They are used by someone who needs to communicate only from their vehicle.

  • Vehicle Power Source - A mobile radio runs off the vehicle power system, which eliminates the worry of internal battery life and duty cycle.
  • Higher Power - Mobiles can support up to 110 W of power. This results in a much greater usable range.
  • External Antenna - A larger and more powerful antenna allows for better system coverage.
  • Support of In-Vehicle Functions - A mobile can be interfaced with such in-vehicle functions as AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location), Data Terminals, Siren, or Public Address.
